Such a gem in Essen! One of the best Bulgogi I have ever eaten. I recommend you to have Dolsot Bibimbap. The portion is quite large and the food is hot until the end! It served with two side dishes.
The staff was welcoming and the service was excellent. Highly recommended!
Very delicious authentic Korean restaurant, ate there 3 days in a row during my entire stay in Essen. My favorite is dolsot bibimbap with pork and kimchi, be warned a bit spicy! Everything was great, I also recommend taking soju always! Friendly staff! Make sure to book a few days in advance, very popular place!
The visit here was a disappointment.
We ordered dinner and appetizers. The first free starters were very average in taste. Then we ordered kimchi jeon and mandu dumplings, the dumplings were really tasty but the pancakes were badly fried, baked on the outside but the inside was barely sticking and it was impossible to eat them. While for dinner the spicy pork was tasty although they served it with overcooked rice mush. But the bibimbap with beef was terrible. Not only was it quite cold when I got it, it must have been beef from the previous week. I haven't eaten such tough and stringy meat in a long time. My friend who came and ordered with me waited a long time for food. Only got it when I had finished my meal.
Delicious Korean food in a small but cozy place near Messe Essen. Bibimbap was top notch!
The food is very tasty they are really traditional Korean food. I had Kimchi Jjigae and my friend had another menu. More important, the staffs were very nice and friendly, especially a cute young girl. We are so happy that we discover the restaurant and we will definitely visit again next time 🥰 …
I was totally in the mood for some Korean food. Jay's Essen came in perfect. It it on the main street where most restaurants will be when visiting #essen #germany
They accept card and cash. Can definitely get a bit busy so I would recommend reserving a table but it's not needed. I went with a #somak for a drink and paired it with some #kimchi and #bulgogi I thought the portions were perfect. The flavor was just right as well. Making the Bulgogi nice and tender.
I was happy to know the staff were so attentive and cared so much for their food. If I had the chance I would definitely give this place another try.
Finally, the rating. I will give this restaurant a 7.2 out of 10 on that 🔥 scale.
I am giving 5* for the hospitality and for the traditional taste of food. I have tried different restaurant across Europe but Jays is by far the best I had! And surprisingly in Essen. Limited in menu but you can serve here somw of the main traditional key dishes such as "mandu", "bulgogi", "bibimbap", "ramyun", etc., Cozy place, friendly very good prices and the best ginger tea I had in my life! What also surprised me was that the owner has remembered my name from the reservation and even pronounced it correctly without having to look on the agenda. I will definitely come back! 감사합니다!
Loved the food. Authentic Korean with a bit of an special touch. Friendly service. Price was upper mid-level. Decoration fresh, slightly modern without being to hip. Not very large so I guess you should make a reservation during peak times.
